Yes, and limits vary by plan, so you should choose one that will meet your needs.

Will the plans save me from paying the ACA penalty?

As of 2019, the ACA Individual Mandate, otherwise known as the penalty, is no longer in effect.

Why are the premiums charged by healthcare organizations so much less than those charged by an insurance company?

Basically, because healthcare organizations are allowed to design plans for specific markets, and are further allowed to limit the amount of coverage they offer, they are better able to control both their financial risk and exposure. That predictability directly translates to lower premiums.

Are these plans suitable for everyone?

Because these plans are designed for specific markets, health sharing is not for everyone. However, individuals and families who are reasonably healthy, live a reasonable and healthy lifestyle, are free of drugs, drink moderately or not at all, do not smoke or are willing to quit can buy valuable medical services for approximately one half the cost of traditional insurance.

Are healthcare organizations regulated?

Yes. Health Sharing organizations are certified by the department of Health & Human Services and are regulated by the IRS and state Attorneys General. It is noted that the State DOI, which regulate insurance companies, are answerable to HHS/CMS also!

Are pre-existing conditions covered?

A chronic or recurrent medical condition that exists 24 months prior to the Effective Date is subject to a 24 month waiting period. Pre-exiting or recurring cancer is not eligible for sharing.

What is a pre-existing condition?

A pre-existing condition is any illness or accident for which a person has been diagnosed, received medical treatment, been examined, taken medication, or had symptoms within 24 months prior to the application date. This would not, however, apply to the management of the condition at the Primary Care Physician level such as for regular PCP visits, bloodwork, etc., which would be eligible for sharing.

What is chronic care?

Chronic care is care associated with any condition with which you have been diagnosed and are receiving ongoing management at a Primary Care Physician. Examples of such conditions would be diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, cholesterol, cardiac conditions, etc… Chronic maintenance is offered with PrimaCare and AlieraCare Premium Plans.

Can I see any doctor?

You can see any doctor within the network associated with the plan you selected, being the First Health Network for PrimaCare plans and the PHCS MultiPlan Network for OneShare programs. Click here to find a list of providers for the First Health Network, and here for the PHCS Multiplan Network.

Note than any inquiries of your current physician should reference the aforementioned networks and not the Healthcare organizations.

Can I see a specialist?

You may see a specialist under specific OneShare Programs, which may require a referral from your Primary Care Physician, The visit fee is dependent upon the program selected.

What happens if I develop a chronic illness or disease or other medical condition that requires specialized, ongoing treatment?

Because you cannot be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition, under the Affordable Care Act, you and your family can sign up for major medical insurance on the exchanges outside of the open enrollment period if you experience certain qualifying life events. Such qualifying life events include marriage, childbirth, loss of income and other major changes. In most cases, you have 60 days after the date that triggered the qualifying life event to purchase major medical health insurance coverage. Should a catastrophic event such as an accident or serious illness take place, it's likely that a loss of income will follow, hence generating a qualifying life event and thus the opportunity to enroll in more robust coverage on the exchanges that will provide the level of care that circumstances now deem necessary.

How do I use my benefits?

Shortly after enrolling you will receive a welcome email directly from Aliera healthcare (for PrimaCare plans). Aliera provides concierge services designed to help members navigate the healthcare system.

If you enrolled with OneShare you will receive a welcome email and phone call (for OneShare Programs) which will provide a temporary membership card and explain how to activate your membership.

Will I be able to use my benefits if I travel?

Yes! First Health and PHCS are national networks.
